- Description
- By the 1860s, bush ranging in Australia had acquired something of an aura of glamour, derring-do and defiance of the authorities and the wealthy landed aristocracy. Ballads were written about the most famous bushrangers and their escapades were followed closely In the newspapers. Perhaps it was the lure of this adventurous, romantic life that influenced a seemingly ordinary young man to create the persona of one of the most notorious of Australia's bushrangers. In 1869, lay preacher Andrew George Scott seemed the perfect gentleman. But for some inexplicable reason, he suddenly turned to crime, robbing a bank and beginning a career that would end in tragedy.
